AICP Certification Exam Diversity Scholarship

The American Planning Association is committed to providing opportunities for all to achieve excellence in planning by fostering equity, diversity, and inclusion in the organization and the planning profession. Diversity is an inclusive concept that encompasses, but is not limited to, race, ethnicity, class, gender, age sexuality, ability, educational attainment, spiritual beliefs, creed, culture, tribal affiliation, nationality, financial status, immigration status, political beliefs, and veteran status.

AICP Certification Exam Diversity scholarships aims to help make the planning profession more diverse.

Process

  • Interested APA Florida Chapter members should submit this form to describe your self-identified diversity background. The form must be completely filled out, including the planner’s full name and APA identification number.
  • Completed forms should be sumbmitted by Feb. 17, 2023. If you have questions, contact APA Florida Chapter Professional Development Officer (PDO) Henry Bittaker, FAICP, at hbittaker@aol.com.
  • Selections will be made by the Florida PDO and submitted to APA Staff by March 24, 2023. Nationally, 50 scholarships will be available for the Spring 2023 exam on a first-come, first-served basis, hence the earlier, late August Florida Chapter submittal deadline.
  • If selected, all recipients will be entered into the exam system prior to Spring 2023 AICP exam registration opening in April, reflecting the lowered scholarship exam registration costs.
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: If you were awarded a Fall 2022 scholarship and did not pass the exam you will need to reapply for the scholarship if you wish it to apply to the Spring 2023 exam.

Under this program, APA Florida scholarship recipients pay reduced fees to AICP as follows:

  • $85 for the exam registration fee. Regular exam registration fee is $255.
  • $85 for the experience assessment after passing the exam. Regular experience assessment fee is $255.
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: Beginning with the 2023 exam cycle, all awarded scholarships must be used for the cycle granted. Recipients must re-apply for the scholarship if they do not pass their exam or if their assessment does not meet the requirements.

Selection

This scholarship is awarded with the intention to diversify the planning profession. Professional Development Officers (PDO) select individuals who self-identify with the underrepresented populations identified above through the process described below. The scholarship recipient selection rests with the PDO and is final.
