Adapting to Climate Change: A Planning Guide for State Coastal Managers. This document first discusses the impacts of climate change before providing guidance on the planning process, vulnerability assessments, and adaptation planning and implementation.
Broward County Climate Action Plan. Broward County’s Climate Change Action Plan discusses strategies and actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, build resiliency, and adapt to the consequences of climate change.
Broward County Climate Change Element (2010). The policies within the Climate Change Element are an extension of the 126 recommendations found within Broward County’s Climate Change Action Plan. This Element provides a framework for integrating the economic, environmental, and social factors of climate change. The Element aims to mitigate the causes, and address the local implications of global climate change, and in doing so will help Broward County move closer to building a sustainable, climate resilient community.
City of Punta Gorda Adaptation Plan (2009). Due to the challenges the City of Punta Gorda faces as a result of climate change, the city has already adopted comprehensive plan language to address the impacts of sea level rise. Through this language, as well as other means, the city aims to combat the effects on the shoreline of the City. The Adaptation Plan identifies further alternative adaptations that could be undertaken to address the aforementioned challenges and vulnerabilities that will stem from climate change.
Climate Change Resilience: Governance and Reforms. This report offers policy recommendations to increase climate change resilience through improved governance.
Department of Health and Human Services Climate Adaptation Plan. Policies, risk assessments, goals and objectives, and scientific research are included in this plan that focuses on the effects of climate change on human health and effective risk reduction and adaptation measures.
EPA National Stormwater Calculator. This application estimates annual rainwater amount and frequency of runoff from a specific site in the United States and is meant for users interested in reducing runoff from a property.
Lee County Climate Change Resiliency Strategy (2010). The strategy identifies potential climate change resiliency strategies through coordination and consultation with local government leaders in 39 Lee County departments and divisions, including constitutional offices. The CCRS is a toolbox that contains an array of ideas and strategies the county can employ in climate change planning, energy savings, and cost savings. The document also identifies the key elements of climate change resiliency for the county and provides further resources that the county can use in climate change resiliency planning.
Nature Conservancy Coastal Resilience Mapping Portal. The Coastal Resilience Mapping Portal allows users to navigate to specific geographies and view local risks and vulnerabilities. The tools are meant to provide support for planners addressing coastal hazards, resilience, and adaptation.
Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment for the City of Tampa, Florida. The City of Tampa, Florida and the Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission conducted an assessment of the impacts that sea level rise and flooding may have on the City’s economy, property, and infrastructure.
Southeast Florida Regional Climate Action Plan (2012). A product of the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact, the plan focuses on impacts of climate change while addressing hazard mitigation, adaptation, and resilience initiatives that can mitigate impacts in the future. The report aims to integrate climate adaptation and mitigation into existing decision-making systems and to develop a plan that can be implemented through existing local regional agencies, processes, and organizations. It hopes to provide a framework that will stimulate the creation of a stronger and more resilient Southeast Florida in the future.
Sea Level Scenarios Sketch Planning Tool (2013). This FDOT funded research was developed to better understand the possible impacts of rising sea levels on the state’s transportation system and to explore ways to support decision making and increase the resiliency of transportation infrastructure to these impacts. This interactive Geographic Information System (GIS) tool facilitates the identification of transportation infrastructure potentially at risk from projected sea level changes. The tool builds upon the USACE sea level change projection methodology, as outlined in the latest published USACE Engineering Circular EC 1165-2-212. The tool consists of three elements that can be used either separately or in combination— a map viewer, the output modeled GIS data layers (inundation surfaces and affected infrastructure), and an ArcGIS calculator for creating custom inundation surfaces.
Tools for Coastal Climate Adaptation Planning: A Guide for Selecting Tools to Assist with Ecosystem-Based Climate Planning. This guide provides software and web-based tools that help incorporate data and specialized analyses into the coastal management and planning process. The purpose of this guide is to provide planners with the information necessary to select the appropriate tools for their projects.
U.S. Department of Transportation Climate Adaptation Plan 2014: Ensuring Transportation Infrastructure and System Resilience. This plan describes the steps that U.S. DOT will take to fully integrate climate change adaptation and resiliency considerations into their policies, programs, and operations.
