Associate Planner

Requires a bachelor degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Urban/Regional Planning, Public Administration, Public Policy, Engineering, Architecture, or related field AND one (1) year of related experience, or an equivalent combination for education and experience. Experience in floodplain management is desirable. Requires a valid Florida driver license.
Performs mid-level professional planning work serving as the first point of contact for developers, engineers, and other professionals. Processes land development cases, such as rezoning, PUDs, conditional uses, variances, vacations, etc.; and maintains case files through the City’s online management system.
Gathers and analyzes data; develops and presents technical recommendations; conducts research and responds to record requests; reviews applications; conducts site visits; participates in the region’s Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) meetings and other on and off-site meetings as required. Conducts special studies and projects; prepares staff reports and presentations.
Reviews, interprets, and stays up to date on local, state and federal statutes, FEMA flood maps, administrative rules, ordinances, City-wide practices and procedures.
