UF's Fountain Named 2025 Andre Anderson Scholarship Recipient

Victoria Fountain’s planning journey began at Spelman College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies, graduating Magna Cum Laude. During her senior year, she recognized economic disparities in her predominantly Black hometown of Conyers, Ga. Driving through the area, she noticed new developments were primarily gas stations and liquor stores. Frustrated by the lack of business variety and economic growth, she sought to understand the root causes of limited development.

Her research on how economic stagnation affects predominantly Black communities, particularly Atlanta’s West End, introduced her to urban planning. She discovered how past planning decisions negatively impacted and isolated the area. The positive feedback from her research sparked her passion for urban planning. Inspired by Spelman’s mission to “Make a choice to change the world,” she committed to addressing longstanding urban planning challenges through research, advocacy, and practical solutions.

Since pursuing a Master of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Florida, Fountain has expanded her knowledge in transportation, housing, and economic development. Her involvement with the Student Planning Association has allowed her to connect with peers, attend the 2024 Florida Planning Conference, and cultivate professional relationships.

As she continues her journey, Fountain aspires to become a skilled urban planner dedicated to fostering thriving communities in Metro Atlanta. She aims to advocate for policies and planning strategies that reflect the needs of residents and promote equitable development.

Congratulations to Victoria!
