Student Minority Scholarship Named for Chapter's First Black President

In 2021, the APA Florida Executive Committee unanimously voted to rename its annual Minority Scholarship in honor of Andre Anderson, the chapter’s first Black president, who served from January 2017 through December 2018.
Andre is currently recovering at a health rehabilitation facility in the Orlando area following a stroke in 2021.
“Andre has been a tireless advocate for raising awareness around equity, diversity, and inclusion within our membership,” said Laura Everitt, AICP, Esq., LEED GA, who succeeded Andre as chapter president. “I’m grateful the Executive Committee chose to honor his legacy in this meaningful way.”
Each year, APA Florida awards one or two scholarships to minority students attending accredited planning programs. To date, the chapter has awarded more than $29,000 in support of future planners from underrepresented communities.
