Position Statement
After nearly 20 years in practice, and the last 2 years as VP of Sections Affairs, I can say with confidence that communication is the most important part of our roles as planners. We engage every day to educate, inform and seek input from residents, stakeholders, leaders, and special interest groups. And more importantly we communicate with each other because we know that sharing information and experiences will lead to better planning for our communities. Our professional organization, APA Florida, provides a platform for communication between planners across the state, a critical service for the growth of planning in Florida. We are very fortunate to have staff in the Chapter office who focus on communications and have nourished this growth. I would be honored to support our staff by way of serving as the Vice President of Communication for APA Florida members.
As VP of Communications, I will revisit our 2023 strategic plan established during our last leadership retreat in Debary, FL. It is exciting to see how many tasks we have completed since that time, including hiring a communications professional, creating a Chapter communication plan and providing more training to members. I would like to build on these accomplishments by better defining our communication goal and objectives. Specifically, Objectives 3 and 4 of our strategic plan specify targeting external groups as members and leveraging technology, media and other platforms. I am certain we can expand our message internally and externally with a complete technology and media toolbox, as well as an alignment with Membership Services as it relates to our allied professions (i.e. ASLA, AIA, ASCE) and academic institutions. It will be an honor to serve you as VP of Communications.
