Welcome to the New Executive Committee in Gold Coast!
The new Executive Committee for the Gold Coast Section for the American Planning Association (FL) has been announced! APA(FL) is pleased to share with members the results of this Fall's vote with all. Indeed, the line up is exciting, and the new roster of leaders has exciting ideas for planners in the weeks and months ahead!
Leading our group is Mr. Juan Mullerat, who has been elected to be the Chair. Juan is the Principal of PlusUrbia Design, a local planning, and design firm. The Vice-Chair is Mr. Mark Brown, AICP, PTP. Mark has an extensive background in sustainable transportation and has worked on complete streets policies and capital projects in Baltimore, Dallas and now Florida. The newly elected Secretary is Ms. Camila Zablah, who is a Project Director at PlusUrbia. She has a background in Architecture and has been involved in innovative planning, architecture and preservation projects such as Me Importa Little Havana. Ms. Ephrat Yovel, AICP, remains on the roster, giving time as the group's Treasurer. Ephrat is a planning consultant who is well-established in South Florida with a depth of experience in resilience planning. Increasingly, her practice has become international and she spends a good deal of time overseas. The new Professional Development Officer is Mr. Joe Eisenberg. Joe is a planner with the City of Miami in the Urban Design Division. He is the lead author on many of the City's most innovative policies in recent years which has enabled the City to incentivize housing affordability and transit-oriented development through the zoning code.
The Section's has the support of very talented Directors who will support and lead some of its efforts throughout the year. Ms. Sue Trone who will continue as its Communications Director, Mr. Alex David as Legislative Director, Mr. Cesar Garcia-Pons as Awards Committee Director, and Ms. Isabella Remolina as its Young Person's Liaison. Their volunteer work is invaluable to our Section, and as other Director positions and appointments continue to be filled, the section will grow stronger in the coming months. The Gold Coast has a very well-qualified roster of leaders. The winter retreat was held in December. During this time, Mr. Ed Ng, Immediate Past Chair, assessed the activities and accomplishments during his tenure. The incoming board and directors expressed their initial ideas moving forward and building on a very successful 2019.
The January meeting will be a visioning meeting—a date will be sent soon to all members to encourage attendance. We encourage you to become active members of our section.
