Working with stakeholders, developers, and elected officials to come up with innovative solutions to address shifting land use challenges is often only half the battle. Welcome to the Atlantic Coast Section!
The Atlantic Coast Section is a professional non-profit organization serving the members of APA, APA-FL, and the Section residing within Brevard, Indian River, and Volusia Counties. Our purpose is to advance the art and science of planning through the sharing of information, ideas, and experience. Our mission is to bring the benefits of National and Chapter membership to the local level by creating opportunities for professional development, continuing education, networking, and socializing.
The Atlantic Coast Section has approximately 150+ members among the three counties. Our members are professional planners, students, appointed planning board officials, city and county officials, private sector consultants, real estate professionals, and others interested in the planning profession and the positive impact planning can have along the East-Central Florida coast.
The section hosts events in each county throughout the year, most notably the annual Planning Commissioner’s two-day training session and the annual section membership meeting and holiday party. In 2017, the section hosted the APA-FL annual state conference in Daytona Beach. In 2018, we participated in the chapter’s “Circuit Rider” speaker program with nationally recognized urbanist Joe Minicozzi. The Atlantic Coast Section also partners with other local organizations such as VCARD and FPZA Surfcoast Chapter to provide AICP/CM credits to our members.
The Atlantic Coast Section Executive Committee meets monthly to plan these events and conduct section business. Being active in the section, whether as an officer or a volunteer, provides opportunities for leadership and professional growth.
