The Planner III is a responsible supervisory or highly specialized professional planning position directing major work elements and assisting the Section Chief in administering the work program of a section of the Orange County Zoning Division. This position may be hired as a I or II.

Tasks assigned to this position require exercising independent, professional judgment based upon prior experience and using the best available data for determining appropriate strategies in the development and presentation of data, reports and recommendations.

Minimum Qualifications

Planner I: Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Urban Planning or closely related field, or graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or a closely related field and one (1) year of planning experience.

Based on area of assignment, may be required to demonstrate strong writing, presentation meeting facilitation, computer, and analytical skills.

Planner II: Master's degree in Urban Planning or closely related field and two (2) years of experience in Urban Planning or graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or a closely related field and four (4) years of experience in Urban Planning.

This position requires strong writing, analytical, presentation and meeting facilitation skills.

Planner III: Master's Degree in Urban Planning or closely related field of study and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in urban planning; or, a Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning or a closely related field of study and six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in urban planning; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Chief Planner, Zoning Division, Orange County, Florida

The Zoning Division currently has two Chief Planner positions available: BZA Coordination and Permitting. These positions are responsible for providing professional, technical, administrative and supervisory work.

The BZA Coordination Section is primarily responsible for providing support to the Board of Zoning Adjustment.

The Permitting Section is responsible for zoning reviews on residential permitting, signage, business tax receipts, alcohol licenses, billboards, addressing, lot splits, and more.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Planning, Public Administration or a closely related field, and five years of experience in a planning-related area to include one year of supervisory experience; or a Bachelor's degree in Planning, Public Administration or a closely related-field, and eight years of experience in a planning related area to include one year of supervisory experience.
