About the San Felasco Section

Downtown Gainesville

Welcome to San Felasco!

The San Felasco Section is blessed with a diverse selection of cultural and environmental resources.  The University of Florida is centered in Gainesville and has the well-known and respected Department of Urban and Regional Planning whose graduates are spread across the state and nation.

Environmental resources include numerous freshwater springs the largest of which is Silver Springs in Marion County just outside Ocala.  The Suwannee River runs through the center of the Section and the Gulf of Mexico is on our western boundary.  The Ocala National Forest and numerous other natural areas are in the Section and Interstate 75 provides a north-south transportation route.

Planning issues relate to protecting and enhancing the existing natural resources while accommodating the growth in urban areas.  Planning for and implementing economic development in the rural areas continues to be a priority for planners in the San Felasco Section.
