Fall AICP Certification Exam Diversity Scholarship

Deadline: Aug. 29, 2025 (Applications open July 9, 2025)

The American Planning Association is committed to providing opportunities for all to achieve excellence in planning by fostering equity, diversity, and inclusion in the organization and the planning profession. Diversity is an inclusive concept that encompasses, but is not limited to, race, ethnicity, class, gender, age, sexuality, ability, educational attainment, spiritual beliefs, creed, culture, tribal affiliation, nationality, immigration status, financial status, political beliefs, and veteran status.

AICP Certification Exam Diversity scholarships aims to help make the planning profession more diverse.

Process

Fifty scholarships will be awarded for the Fall 2025 exam to any APA member via a lottery system directly handled by APA that is applicable for either the exam costs or the assessment costs (but not both in the same cycle). If you are interested in applying for a scholarship, self-identify with one or more of the diversity categories listed above, and have a financial need for the scholarship, please submit an application from the APA website.

Apply by noon (CT) on Aug. 29, 2025. Scholarship selections will be by APA via lottery in mid-September.

Here’s the scholarship fee schedule:

Mid-July/August — Scholarship application window open

Mid-Sept — Scholarship recipients selected

October — AICP registration window opens

November — Members take the exam

December — AICP assessment submission window opens

Under this program, APA Florida scholarship recipients pay reduced fees to AICP as follows:

  • $85 for the exam registration fee. Regular exam registration fee is $305.
  • $85 for the experience assessment after passing the exam. Regular experience assessment fee is $305.
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: All awarded scholarships must be used for the cycle granted. Recipients must re-apply for the scholarship if they do not pass their exam or if their assessment does not meet the requirements.

Please note that the awarding of a scholarship does not guarantee essay approval or a passing exam score.
