Achieving Hazard Resilient Coastal & Waterfront Smart Growth (NOAA/EPA, 2012)
The report done by NOAA and the EPA is based off of a two-day roundtable held in August 2011, focusing on smart growth, hazard mitigation, climate change adaptation, and coastal management. Key areas discussed: opportunities and challenges; siting and design; plans and policies; engagement, communication and education; gaps and needs.

These resources provide guidance for Florida’s coastal communities on the benefits of incorporating adaptation strategies into local planning policies and programs. These documents provide details of planning tools communities can implement through the designation of adaptation action areas (AAAs), as well as guidance on how to amend current planning documents to implement adaptation strategies.

After Sandy- Advancing Strategies for Long-term Resilience and Adaptability (Urban Land Institute, July 2013)
The report was created by a panel of 25 professionals gathered by ULI to outline recommendations on a variety of tools to address long-term resilience and adaptability of the Mid-Atlantic Region (focusing on NY/NJ) following Hurricane Sandy. The report addresses topics such as land use and development; infrastructure, technology and capacity; finance, investment, and insurance; and leadership and governance.
Building Capacity for Economic Recovery and Preparedness in Polk County, Florida (International Economic Development Council)
In 2004 Polk County was devastated by three hurricanes over the course of three months. The county received the second highest amount of disaster aid in the state from FEMA at slightly more than $71 million, while there were $1.2 billion in damages. The report discusses methods to facilitate economic recovery following events such as this through business recovery programs, communication, emergency financing, etc.
Building Resilience against Climate Effects-A Novel Framework to Facilitate Climate Readiness in Public Health Agencies
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have developed this framework to assist agencies in using the best available science to project climate change health impacts and prioritize interventions and risk management strategies.

These two reports explain how smart growth regulations and green building principles can help communities adapt to climate change impacts including; flooding, sea level rise, extreme heat, drought, and wildfire.
Coastal Zone Management PAS Report
Coastal Zone Management was authored by two planners and published in 2016. This report addresses the issues facing coastal management and “gives planners the tools they need to keep their heads above the water and their feet on the ground.” Issues explored include; water quality, erosion, habitat conservation, stormwater management, development and redevelopment, offshore energy development, and new geospatial technologies.
Economic Resilience to Disasters (Community & Regional Resilience Institute, November 2009)
This report explains how economic resilience has evolved into an important concept by using literature on economic resilience and how it can be expanded in related fields. It also discusses the many dimensions of resilience.
