Candidate for Vice President Section Affairs Juan Mullerat
Over the past several years, I have had the opportunity to serve APA Florida both as Chair of the Gold Coast Section and as Vice Chair of Section Affairs, experiences that have allowed me to work closely with leaders and members across the state. My focus has consistently been on strengthening the organization, supporting section leadership, and creating systems that position APA Florida for long-term success.
One of my latest initiatives has been the comprehensive redesign and modernization of our section bylaws in coordination with members of the Executive Committee. This ongoing effort will improve organizational consistency, governance, and operational clarity across the Chapter, and above all, clarity and transparency that will strengthen our Chapter.
In my current role, I have also worked directly with section chairs statewide to better understand their unique needs, support their efforts, and help address challenges as they arise. At the same time, my active involvement in organizations such as ULI and CNU has allowed me to bring new ideas and broader professional perspectives that strengthen collaboration and help APA Florida continue evolving alongside the planning profession.
I believe these experiences have prepared me to continue serving with thoughtful, collaborative, and forward-looking leadership.
What are the three most important challenges facing APA Florida?
The three most important challenges facing APA Florida are sustaining member engagement, supporting volunteer leadership, and maintaining organizational continuity across sections. As the profession evolves, members expect meaningful opportunities for education, networking, and professional growth. At the same time, section leaders face increasing demands on their time, making leadership support and succession planning essential. Finally, ensuring consistent governance, communication, and coordination across sections is critical to maintaining a strong and unified statewide organization capable of effectively serving planners throughout Florida.
What do you most want to accomplish during your term?
During my term, I want to continue strengthening APA Florida's sections by improving communication, collaboration, and leadership support statewide. I hope to build on the organizational improvements already underway, including governance modernization and stronger coordination between sections and the Chapter. I also want to continue helping section leaders access the resources and support they need while expanding opportunities for member engagement and future leadership development. Most importantly, I want to help ensure APA Florida remains a connected, responsive, and forward-looking organization that continues delivering value to planners across the state.
How would you make sure your efforts are successful?
Success depends on communication, consistency, and collaboration. I would continue working closely with section leaders to understand their needs, identify challenges early, and share effective practices across the state. Maintaining regular communication and clear priorities will help ensure initiatives remain practical and impactful. I also believe continuity matters, which is why I will continue building on the relationships and organizational improvements already established during my current term. By staying accessible, responsive, and solutions-oriented, I can help ensure APA Florida continues growing as a strong and supportive professional organization.
