Position Statement

As planners, we have the privilege to affect how Florida will evolve for generations to follow.  We manage rapid growth, prepare for natural disasters, plan infrastructure investments and create resilient and sustainable communities.  We must communicate long-term goals, while addressing competing demands on resources that impact short-term decisions. Our clients, elected officials and communities rely on our expertise and analyses to make important decisions every day--and we should not take that responsibility lightly.  APA Florida provides us with access to technical resources and a voice to advocate for sound policy and advance our profession.

I see APA Florida as a national leader in addressing current and anticipating future planning challenges and the diversity of our membership gives us credibility.  During my nearly three decades of planning in Florida, I have seen the value of APA Florida and the commitment its leadership and members have to our great state.  As your President-Elect and through my continued participation on the Legislative Policy Committee, I will bring additional focus to infrastructure needs and funding, both for new construction and on-going maintenance of existing facilities, to support our growth, enhance our special places and preserve our quality of life for our future.  The input of you, our members, will be critical for this statewide issue.

I appreciate your vote and look forward to working with you to continue the high standards that have been set by APA, APA Florida and your Sections.
