Position Statement

I am running to be your VP for Professional Development because I want to enhance benefits for you as a member of APA Florida. As a young planner, I have benefited greatly from these opportunities. My first job came by way of social networking through an APA annual conference. As a professional, my work has been aided by the learning opportunities provided by my peers, and professional advancement created through AICP certification. This understanding guided me as Professional Development Officer and Chair of the Gold Coast Section, where I led revisions to our approach on networking and education, including AICP exam prep, achieving a 100% pass rate in the first 3 sessions.

To me, great professional development programs involve:

  1. Learning and skills development
  2. Networking opportunities
  3. Recognition that aids in professional advancement

As your Professional Development Officer, my goals align with these tracks:

Learning

  • Work to include more information on training resources in newsletters.
  • Coordinate with the Conference Committee to provide support and curate high-quality sessions.
  • Work with proposers that had highly rated conference session ideas, but which may not have been selected due to time constraints, to create local education series as in-person or online workshops.

Professional Networking

  • Enhance mentorship programs by differentiating between emerging and mid-level planners’ needs and revamping the coaching and match structure.
  • Work towards creation of an online “Planner’s Peer Exchange.”
  • Bridge better connections between employers and opportunity seekers to the APA Florida JobMart.

AICP Certification

  • Work with each Section to enhance an AICP prep package and expand opportunities for online and local in-person test prep.
  • Build upon the past Chapter successes in FAICP recognition.

I look forward to working with and for you to serve your professional development needs!
