Laura Everitt is the recipient of the 2023 Distinguished Service to the Chapter Award. During her six-year presidential cycle, Laura navigated the chapter through unprecedented challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and a pivotal leadership transition with the appointment of a new Executive Director.

Laura's proactive and hands-on approach was pivotal during the pandemic, ensuring the Florida Planning Conference went ahead virtually in 2020. Her foresight and leadership were instrumental in seamlessly transitioning to a new Executive Director, as she initiated the creation of an Employee Handbook and other essential written policies. Demonstrating exceptional organizational skills, Laura led the search committee, dedicating countless hours to reviewing resumes, conducting interviews, and developing a comprehensive scoring system, culminating in the timely appointment of the current director.

Her commitment extended beyond administrative duties to the heart of the chapter's values, playing a crucial role in establishing the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee. Through her involvement with the Nominating Committee and completion of EDI training, Laura has shown a steadfast dedication to fostering inclusivity within the chapter.

Before her presidency, Laura's leadership shone as she headed the Sun Coast Section and redefined the Vice President of Membership Services role. She authored the APA Florida’s first Membership Strategy, addressing and mitigating recession impacts on membership. Her strategic approach to member attraction and retention has significantly strengthened the chapter's financial health and membership engagement.

Under Laura's guidance, the chapter maintained its course during global economic challenges, successfully hosted a high-attendance conference amidst a pandemic, and ensured a smooth executive transition, marking her tenure with stability and resilience.
